Local attractions
All the local towns and villages are charming and steeped in history and are worth a visit. Steyning, Upper Beeding and Henfield are traditional Sussex villages with historic buildings, shops, charming pubs and assorted eateries.
The stunning South Downs National Park is Britain's newest National Park. The area covers 1,600km2 of breathtaking views and hidden gems. A rich tapestry of wildlife, landscapes, tranquillity and visitor attractions.
The South Downs Way passes just south of Upper Beeding, less than a mile south of the campsite. It runs for around 100 miles from Winchester in Hampshire to Eastbourne in Sussex.
Woods Mill Nature Reserve is very close to the campsite. It is the headquarters of Sussex Wildlife Trust and an environmental education centre. The nature reserve provides a peaceful setting, comprising coppice woodland, meadows and a large reed-fringed pond.
The coast is just a short ride away with Brighton, Worthing and Eastbourne all offering traditional seaside features such as beaches, piers, museums, amusements, pubs, eateries and shopping. The Royal Pavilion in Brighton is an exotic pleasure palace built for King George IV. Shoreham Beach is a fine local beach and swimming spot, with a cafe and toilets by the Lagoon carpark.
The Brighton Festival is a month long arts and culture festival held every May attracting international and local talent. The Steyning Festival runs from May-June and The Adur Festival runs during June. Both of these local festivals showcase music, art, theatre and more.
Visit the remains of Bramber Castle, this Norman castle is perched on a high natural knoll overlooking the River Adur.
Sussex Prairie Garden is a stunning garden just outside Henfield, you can get up close with the flowers, enjoy fine food and drink in the teashop and buy plants and other items from their shop.
Drusillas Park is a fantastic day out for the family, a zoo park with a focus on conservation. There are many animals and an adventure playground, mini golf, a maze, the Thomas Train ride and much more.
The Bluebell Railway is a heritage steam railway running through the heart of Sussex.
